Gatwick Airport South Terminal

Gatwick’s oldest terminal is the South Terminal which caters to almost 50 domestic, international and charter flights. This particular terminal has different available facilities to all sorts of travellers, including Business tourists, those with children and those with disabilities. Such facilities like communication, baggage and cash services help travellers to make their trip more convenient and enjoyable. Check In

If you wish to check in at the South Terminal, it is found on the right side of the said terminal. You should arrive there hours ahead of your flight to give ample time for the staff at Gatwick Airport to conduct security measures. For international flights, travellers are advised to check-in 3 hours prior to departure. For European flights, passengers are encouraged to be within the premises 2 hours prior to departure while an hour prior to departure for domestic flights.

Self Service Check In

Aurigny, Northwest Airlines, Norwegian.no, Sterling and Virgin Atlantic Airways offer self-service check-in. Aside from it being simple and safe, it can save passengers a lot of time at the airport. It is accessible both online and in the kiosks located strategically within the airport.

Some airlines provide online check-in. These airlines include the Aer Lingus, Air Malta, Aurigny, Flybe, easyJet,  Monarch Airlines, Ryanair, TAP Air Portugal and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Travellers should be reminded that no flight calls are being made at Gatwick so it is important that you take the responsibility of checking the television monitors listing of flight departures for your boarding time and gate number. Boarding usually starts around 45 minutes before departure.

International links do not need to go through Immigration or Customs but this is not the case for all International to Domestic connections. Domestic to international connecting passengers can utilize certain immigration check points if baggage has been thoroughly checked.

The South Terminal holds the bulk of Gatwick Airport’s Traffic serving domestic, international and charter flights. These flights include those of Aer Lingus, Afriqiyah, Air Algerie, Air Baltic, Air Malta, Air Transat, Air Zimbabwe, Aurigny, Azerbaijan Airlines, Belavia Belarusian Airlines, BH Air (Balkan Holidays), bmi, British Jet, Bulgaria Air, Centralwings, Croatia Airlines, Cubana, easyJet, Estonian Air, Eurocypria, Flybe, flyglobespan, Ghana International Airlines, Karthago, KD Avia, Meridiana Airlines, Monarch Airlines Charters, Monarch Airlines Scheduled, Montenegro Airlines, Northwest Airlines, norwegian.no, Olympic Airways, Oman Air, Onur Air, Pakistan International Airlines, Qatar Airways, Rossiya Airlines, Ryanair, SAS, SATA International, Sterling, TAP Air Portugal, Thomas Cook, Ukraine International Airlines, US Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, and Wizz Air.

Gatwick South Terminal Facilities

The South Terminal has different amenities that travellers can utilize and enjoy. It has 3 different areas which has almost the same facilities depending on your needs. The three areas are the Check-in area, Arrivals area and the Departure area. All three areas have offer Bureaux de Change, ATM machines, Food and Drinks spots, internet connectivity, medical services, payphone areas, shopping destinations and toilet rooms.

At the check in area, you will find Four Bureaux de Change, one Travelex and three TTT Bureaux de Change located throughout the check in area. An ATM machine is located in the check in area and after security. You can access the internet at the spot located after security in the Departures Lounge, open 06:00 to 21:00. Payphones are scattered all throughout the area. There are a few shops located in the check in area, including WHSmith and Boots. Male and female toilets are located opposite Bags etc. Disabled toilets are located opposite Boots.

At the arrivals area, you can spot two Bureaux de Change in the arrivals area, one is located in the baggage reclaim area and a Travelex next to the lifts in the public area of the Arrivals concourse. Buses are available at the street level forecourt. Major car hire companies have desks beyond the Meeting Point. An ATM machine is found at the Rail concourse. You will be able to find the information desk at the main Arrivals area. There is a wireless hotspot located in the main Arrivals area, allowing you to enjoy wireless internet access from your laptop. Left luggage is found at the arrivals hall near the car hire desks which is open 24/7 with rates starting at £6.50 per item per 24 hours. Masta Travel Clinic offers medical advice and travel immunisation service in Jubilee House next to the North Terminal. Payphone areas are found in the Baggage Reclaim and in the main Arrivals area. The taxis are the forecourt and the train is at the entrance of the rail concourse which is clearly signposted towards the departure area.

At the departures area, the Bureaux de Change offer limited banking services. You will find 4 Bureaux de Change in the passenger area of the international departures concourse. These are Travelex, two TTT, and a Money Corp Bureau de Change. There is also a TTT Bureau de Change next to La Senza in the public departures area. ATMS are opposite the International Departures security entrance in Zone G/H. There is also an American Express ATM on the rail station concourse. Most restaurants and cafes are located on level 4 of international departures. There are a few food shops on level 3. There is internet access and a wireless hotspot located in the departures area and in The Avenue. Luggage trolleys are available free for use at the forecourt. The Masta Travel Clinic is also found here in the Jubilee House. Pay phones are located throughout the terminal. There are also public coinbox, phonecard and credit card phones as well as wall-mounted fax machines found within the area. A multi-faith chapel is available for private prayer in The Village (before security). There is a post box located in the public area of the departures concourse next to Boots. There are many retail stores, bookstores and news shops in both the public and passenger areas of the departures concourse. There are male, female and disabled toilets located throughout the airport, as well as baby changing facilities.
