Gatwick’s North Terminal

Gatwick Airport has two terminals –North and South. Gatwick’s newest terminal is the North Terminal which handles most British Airways flights, Delta Air Lines, some overseas airlines’ services plus a limited number of charter flights such as First Choice Airways and ThomsonFly.

This particular terminal has different available amenities to all sorts of passengers, including Business Travellers, those with children and those with special needs. Such facilities like communication, baggage and cash services help travellers to make their trip more convenient and enjoyable. Checking In

If you wish to check in at the North Terminal, it is found at the third floor of the said terminal. You should arrive there hours before your flight to give ample time for the staff at Gatwick Airport to conduct security measures. For international flights, travellers are advised to check-in 3 hours prior to departure. For European flights, passengers are encouraged to be within the premises 2 hours prior to departure while an hour prior to departure for domestic flights.

Self Service Check In

British Airways and Continental Airlines offer self-service check-in. Aside from it being simple and safe, it can save passengers a lot of time at the airport. It is accessible both online and in the kiosks located strategically near the standard check-in desks within the airport.

Some airlines provide online self-service check-in. These airlines include the British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Continental Airlines and easyJet.

Travellers should be reminded that no flight calls are being made at Gatwick so it is important that you take the responsibility of checking the television monitors listing of flight departures for your boarding time and gate number. Boarding usually starts around 45 minutes before departure.

International links do not need to go through Immigration or Customs but this is not the case for all International to Domestic connections. Domestic to international connecting passengers can utilize certain immigration check points if baggage has been thoroughly checked.

Airlines

This terminal caters most of the British Airways flights, Delta Air Lines and some overseas airlines’ services and a limited number of charter flights. Some of their flights include those by Adria Airways, Air Comet, Air Namibia, Air Southwest, Atlas Blue, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Clickair, Continental Airlines, Daallo Airlines, Delta Air Lines, easyJet, Emirates, First Choice Airways, flyLAL Lithuanian Airlines, Flystar Astraeus, Kibris Turkish Airlines, Malev, Tarom, ThomsonFly and Virgin Nigeria.

Gatwick North Terminal Facilities

At the arrival area of the Gatwick’s North Terminal, there are different facilities that passengers can utilize. The Bureaux de Change is found next to the lift in the public area of the arrivals concourse. Buses are available at the terminal forecourt. Major car hire companies have desks in the self-contained building across the forecourt from the arrivals. For their food and drink services, only coffee and snacks are available. The information desk is located in the main arrivals area on the left hand side. There is a wireless hotspot located in the Domestic Arrivals area, allowing you to enjoy wireless internet access from your laptop. There is also an internet kiosk available in the International Arrivals. Luggage trolleys can be used for free at the Baggage Reclaim area. For Medical needs, the Masta Travel Clinic offers medical advice and travel immunisation service in Jubilee House next to the North Terminal. Payphones are available at the Baggage Reclaim and in the main Arrivals hall. A multi-faith chapel is also accessible for private prayer in the arrivals concourse. Access to short stay car parking is found across the forecourt and shuttle buses are found outside the terminal for Long stay parking. Taxis are available at the forecourt. For your toilet needs, just go to the Baggage reclaim area or at the end of each Arrival Hall. If you wish to access the train, just take a shuttle to the South Terminal from the Mezzanine floor.

There are also different but almost similar amenities found at the Gatwick’s North Terminal Departure area. There are 3 Bureaux de Change found in the passenger area of the international departure open space. The Travelex is next to Fat Face and two TTT next to the Sunglass Hut and opposite World Duty Free. There are also 3 Bureaux de Change in the public shopping area, a TTT next to WHSmith and two Travelex next to Glorious Britain and opposite the escalators. ATM machines are located near the Glorious Britain. Most restaurants and cafes are situated at the level 4 of the international departure area. You can also find places to eat at the The Avenue area. There is internet access and a wireless hotspot located in the departure area and in The Avenue, allowing you to enjoy wireless internet access from your laptop. Left luggage facilities are found opposite to the British Airways check-in which is open 05:00 – 21:00, £6.50 per item per 24 hours. There are a lot of luggage trolleys available and free to use found just inside the terminal entry doors in the ‘atrium’. They can also be seen in the Short Term car park but it tends to be pot luck. There is also a Masta Travel Clinic operating in the Jubilee House next to the North Terminal which offers medical advice and travel immunizations services. There are public pay phones located throughout each terminal. Public coinbox, phonecard and credit card phones are available, as well as wall-mounted fax machines. – Mail box and stamp machine are near the door to International Departures opposite TTT Bureau de Change. There are many retail stores, bookstores and news shops found in the international departures area and in The Avenue. There are male, female and disabled toilets located throughout the airport, as well as baby changing facilities. Showers are available and are located in the check-in area.
